Tips & tricks
Photographing things well
- Shoot the label, not just the object. If a box has a brand or model number on it, make sure it’s legible in the photo — stuft.in stores the full-resolution image.
- Open the box. For anything with contents, take a second photo with the lid open. You’ll thank yourself later.
- Include a scale reference for small items. A coin or a finger in the frame helps future-you understand the size.
Tagging strategy
A few tags that tend to be useful across everything:
| Tag | Use it for |
|---|---|
lent-out |
Anything currently borrowed by someone else |
needs-repair |
Broken or incomplete items |
consumable |
Things you use up and need to restock |
seasonal |
Holiday decorations, camping gear, etc. |
sentimental |
Things you’d grab in an emergency |
spare |
Duplicate or backup items |
Speedy Scan mode
Speedy Scan is designed for rapid-fire cataloguing sessions. It chains camera → details → save → next without navigating away. Use it when you’re standing in front of a pile of stuff and want to get through it quickly.
Bulk-tagging
From Browse, use the filter to narrow to a set of items, then select them all to apply or remove a tag in one shot.
Finding things fast
The search bar handles partial words. Searching char will surface charger, charcuterie board, and anything else with those letters in its name, description, or tags.
QR label placement
Stick labels on the front or top of bins, not the side — you want to be able to scan without moving the bin. For transparent bins, stick the label on the inside front so it’s visible through the plastic.
